January 2015

Valerie Frederickson & Company

As we start 2015 off with a bang, I’d like to showcase a new trend that took root towards the latter part of last year and, I anticipate, will become the gold standard by the end of the year. Namely, the idea of Talent as a separate entity from People, reporting directly into the CEO. Yes, we HR experts have finally woken up the business world to the importance of people as assets. Enough so that many are now hiring two full-time strategists to help them get ahead in the war for talent. Having helped hundreds of companies through the high growth times and the more challenging times as a trusted HR advisor to CEO’s and Boards and a trusted career confidant to the HR executive community, this has been the most gratifying development in our discipline. We are in the tightest employment market and most exciting Gold Rush we’ve ever experienced in Silicon Valley, even more so than the dotcom boom of the 90’s. Every day, I get emails from CEO’s and CHRO’s telling me that they’re in an investment year, that they need to make sure they keep up with growth, and that they need our help in selecting the best People and Talent executives to take them there.

As you finish your strategic planning for 2015 and beyond, whether you identify profound gaps in your human resources leadership or bench, or just plain want to talk strategy and hear about trends, give me a call. It’ll be a pleasure to work together and we’ll get your problems solved quickly and flawlessly. Let’s conquer 2015 together!

P.S. We are celebrating our 20th anniversary this year (yes, we’ve officially been doing this for 20 profitable years!) and are hosting THE who’s who party for HR execs this summer, so keep an eye out for an invitation to hit your inbox in the next month or two.

VF&Co in Philanthropy

VF&Co is proud to announce a second successful year partnering with the Mid-Peninsula Parents of Multiples (MPPOM) in hosting the Helping Hands annual Adopt-a-Family extravaganza for under-resourced parents of multiples on the peninsula. This community-based event benefitted 37 low-income families with at least one set of twins or triplets, providing a warm meal, holiday cheer, presents to run the gamut from diapers to school supplies to bikes, and an all-you-can-read bookstore where each child could choose upwards of 20 books to take home. We want to extend a warm and heartfelt thank you to all of our HR candidates and CEO/CFO, VC/PE, and Board clients who donated books and adopted families in support of this great cause.
